I'm sorry to say that I have failed one of my New Years resolutions this month; I've been unable to finish the book I was reading. But January has been a very busy month, with exams and what not so I haven't had much time to myself (even this post is being written rather quickly, as I would like to start February in a good mood and I'm in great need of some decent sleep).
So instead I shall tell you about a book I read in December, not the most cheerful book; The Lovely Bones.
Despite seeing the film beforehand, it didn't ruin the book for me, in fact it warned me of the horrible things that I was going to be reading about. This also prevented hundreds of crying fits throughout. Reading the book after seeing the film makes me feel as if I'm being entrusted with the secret details they failed to include in the film.
The Lovely Bones is an emotion filled book that takes you on a journey of a devastated family and an interesting perspective on the afterlife and the "in-between". By following the family as certain members drift apart, some become closer, some driven mad with grief, allows a sense of catharsis for those reading who have not experienced losing a loved one, giving an open view of how different people deal with grief, what it will drive people to do and how it can effect even unexpected peoples' lives.
This book is definitely worth the read, I spent an entire afternoon crying as I stormed through the book determined to finish, but I loved every moment of it. You will not want to put this book down, well maybe you will, just to try your tears.
Take some time for yourself and read a good book.
So remember, each day, live a little, laugh a little and love a little. ♥
